Neoclassical architecture and English architectural plasterwork came into prominence in the Georgian era and have stayed popular through to today, with Georgian, Victorian and Regency mouldings all still finding a place in contemporary building interiors. Historically, features such as cornicing, the ceiling rose and plaster coving symbolised an understanding and appreciation of quality and craftsmanship and, in turn, represented a show of status.
Featured is Leigh Court retaining many of its original plaster mouldings, the house is now restored to its former splendour by Fullbrooks, with an on-going programme of repair and maintenance.
Bristol’s first recorded millionaire commissioned Leigh Court to be built in the Palladian style in 1814. The interior style is Greek revival and decorated in impressive 19th-century décor.
